Spor o povahu režimu se zaměřením na Slovenskou republiku
JISKRA, Lukáš
In this bachelor thesis we will deal with the dispute about the nature of the political regime of the Slovak Republic. The first part will focus on the theory of political regimes. Here we will define the basic concepts such as democratic, authoritarian and totalitarian regimes. Then we will deal with the theory of hybrid regimes, their possible classifications and selected examples. The second part of the thesis will be devoted to the separate political situation in Slovakia. We will focus on the cases that accompanied the Smer-SD party during its political lifetime. Then, with the help of Freedom House, we will look at how it evaluates selected categories that it considers important for a democratic regime in the context of the Slovak Republic. In the last part we will use theoretical knowledge about political regimes and the results of empirical research. As a result, we will relate Slovak politics to the selected political regime.
Selected Central European left-wing political parties in the context of the institutionalization theory
Kačírek, Lukáš ; Stauber, Jakub (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with problematics regarding the theory of institutionalization and its application on certain political subjects in Central Europe. The thesis is based on multi-case study which analyses two political parties - Slovak SMER-SD and Czech ČSSD, using political science concept of institutionalization. The main objective is to analyse both parties since their foundation and to obtain results regarding these theoretical questions: 1) Is the strong institutionalization the main reason for longevity of social democratic parties? 2) What are the similarities and differences between each political party in level of their institutionalization? The thesis uses theories of institutionalization by Robert Harmel, Lars Svåsand and Hilmar Mjelde to acquire answers to these questions. Theories of institutionalization are then supplemented by Jakub Stauber's criteria; each dimension of the theory is further elaborated. At first, both political systems are introduced in which concerned parties operate, then the thesis follows up with approach of selected authors towards theory of institutionalization. Lastly, the thesis focuses on the research itself and inspection and comparison of final results.

The platform of civic participation in Czech and Slovak Republic
Slováčková, Jasmin ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Kubátová, Hana (referee)
The bachelor thesis "The platform of civic participation in Czech and Slovak Republic" deals with the level of communication and participation among citizens and political parties, which is accessible to a wider range of the public. The work aims to compare the presence of two social democratic parties: the Czech Social Democrat Party (ČSSD) and the Slovak party Direction-Social Democracy (SMER-SD) on their websites from 2006 to the present time. First, the work focuses on the understanding of platforms of civic participation as a subject of political participation and examines the extent to which the parties try to activate their supporters. Furthermore, the concept of civic and political culture of Almond and Verba is analysed in a narrowly defined space within the civil society between political parties and the general population. The work reveals the tendency of parties in the Czech Republic and Slovakia to create internet based platforms between parties and their supporters and tries to evaluate their effectiveness. The thesis maps the creation of its content in terms of participatory, communication and marketing tools and reveals the motivations, intentions and trends of the activities of ČSSD and SMER-SD online. The work reveals the level of involvement of supporters in the parties and...
The Discourse of the Slovak Political Parties on European Integration in the years 2002-2012
Karcolová, Marianna ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Knutelská, Viera (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to interpret how the European Union was constructed in discourse of Slovak political parties from 2002 to 2012. The thesis departs from the social constructivist assumption of mutual constitutiveness of structures and agents. Focusing on the role of ideas in European integration, a concept of polity ideas or normative ideas about the legitimate political order, as defined by Markus Jachtenfuchs, is applied. Applying discursive analysis to political programmes, political parties' utterances about European integration, in particular about democracy, rights and internal security, foreign policy and security, welfare and identity are assigned to four ideal types: Federal state, Intergovernmental cooperation, Economic community and Network. For the research purposes political programmes of three Slovak political parties are analysed: Christian Democratic Movement, Direction - Social Democracy and The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union - Democratic Party. The analysis of the political programmes showed that the Slovak political parties do not have a consistent vision of the future of European integration. A high number of descriptive utterances was found in the programmes. Moreover, beliefs about democracy, rights and internal security, foreign policy and security, welfare...
